Saudi Arabia Takes the Helm of ALECSO

In a momentous announcement, Saudi Arabia has officially assumed the presidency of the Executive Council of the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) until 2026. The passing of the torch occurred during the 27th session of ALECSO, held in Jeddah under the leadership of Saudi Arabia. As Iraq handed over the presidency to the Kingdom, a new era of leadership and cooperation began.

Saudi Arabia’s Commitment to Arab Cooperation

Representing Minister of Culture Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan, Minister of Education and Chairman of the Saudi National Committee for Education, Culture and Science Yousef Al-Benyan extended a warm welcome to the ministers and heads of national committees for education and science participating in the session. Al-Benyan emphasized Saudi Arabia’s unwavering support for the Gaza Strip within the framework of Arab cooperation and solidarity. Furthermore, he voiced the Kingdom’s endorsement of Khalid Anan, the sole Egyptian and Arab candidate for the position of director-general of the organization.

Building Bridges and Fostering Communication

Al-Benyan concluded his address by commending the collective efforts of Arab countries in bolstering ALECSO and fostering connections to achieve common regional objectives. Saudi Deputy Minister of Education Mohammed Al-Sudairi highlighted the increased role of Saudi national institutions in supporting the organization’s work, with over 45 Saudi initiatives showcasing the country’s dedication to collaboration with international organizations and its regional sphere.

Achievements and Collaborations

Iraqi Minister of Education Ibrahim Al-Jabouri, who presided over the 26th session, highlighted the accomplishments of the previous term and outlined programs aimed at enhancing cooperation between Arab culture and the global community. Director General of ALECSO Mohammed Ould Omar expressed gratitude to King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for hosting the event in Jeddah, showcasing prominent programs and projects undertaken by the organization in collaboration with international bodies.

Unity in Support of Palestinian Cause

The conclusion of the 27th session saw ministers and heads of Arab delegations united in their support for the Palestinian cause, condemning the displacement of the Palestinian people and the destruction of Palestinian heritage. Emphasis was placed on the significance of promoting culture, education, innovation, and science in the Arab world, underscoring the commitment to progress and unity in the region.
