Saudi Arabia’s Cabinet Approves Product Safety and Standards Systems

In a session chaired by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia’s Cabinet gave the green light to the Kingdom’s product safety and standards systems.

The Cabinet reviewed progress reports on the Saudi Vision 2030 programs, highlighting achievements already realized on the ground. The transformation of the housing and health sectors was discussed, showcasing key accomplishments such as increased homeownership rates and improved healthcare accessibility and quality.

To enhance product safety, the Kingdom aims to restrict non-conforming products through the Saudi Products Safety program, known as Saleem. This program issues the Annual Conformity Index to assist regulatory authorities and technical teams in prioritizing efforts and streamlining commercial procedures.

Minister of Media Salman Al-Dossary, in a statement to SPA, emphasized the Kingdom’s high rankings in labor market indicators by the World Economic Forum. The Cabinet also highlighted the significant increase in the number of Saudis employed in the private sector, reaching over 2.3 million in 2024 from 1.7 million in 2019.

The Cabinet approved several cooperation agreements, including a memorandum of understanding between the Saudi Ministry of Tourism and its Tunisian counterpart, a MoU between the Saudi Ministry of Investment and the Costa Rican Ministry of Foreign Trade, and an agreement on economics and planning between the Saudi Ministry of Economy and Planning and the Bahraini Ministry of Finance and National Economy.

Additionally, a cooperation MoU between Saudi Arabia’s Small and Medium Enterprises General Authority (Monsha’at) and the Jordan Enterprise Development Corporation was endorsed, along with two deals on air transport services between the Saudi government and the Ugandan and Guatemalan sides.
