Saudi Cinema Encyclopedia: A Game-Changing Initiative

Get ready to dive into the world of Saudi cinema like never before! The Saudi Cinema Encyclopedia, a groundbreaking initiative by the Saudi Cinema Association, is set to revolutionize the industry with its first release of 22 books penned by a diverse group of international authors.

With a goal of publishing 100 books in its inaugural year, the project is in collaboration with Josour Al-Thaqafah Publishing House, promising a treasure trove of knowledge for film enthusiasts.

Film buffs and industry insiders alike can get their hands on the first set of releases during the upcoming 10th Saudi Film Festival, scheduled for May 2-9 this year.

The aim? To elevate Saudi Arabia’s film industry writing from amateur to expert level, establishing a solid foundation for professionalism and specialization in the field.

Abdulwhab Aloryad, the editorial director of the Saudi Cinema Encyclopedia and the bulletin of the Saudi Film Festival “Saafa,” shared with Arab News the vision behind the project. He emphasized that the books were crafted to enrich the knowledge of filmmakers and enthusiasts alike.

Describing the encyclopedia as a pivotal addition to the Saudi Film Festival’s mission, Aloryad highlighted its role in contributing to Saudi cinema’s growth and global competitiveness.

He added, “Our series will serve as a beacon of film knowledge, showcasing the talents of Saudi and Arab authors, introducing the latest works in Arabic, and translating specialized knowledge from various languages into Arabic for the benefit of industry enthusiasts.”

Reflecting on the festival’s journey since 2008, Aloryad noted its commitment to cultural and intellectual development within the film industry. With a focus on knowledge-sharing, the festival has spearheaded the production of over 50 books in previous editions, shedding light on different facets of filmmaking.
