Saudi Designer Tima Abid Wins Designer of the Year at Prestigious Fashion Awards

In a glamorous evening in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia designer Tima Abid took home the coveted Designer of the Year prize at the Women’s Wear Daily Global Fashion Summit and Fashion Awards.

Hosted by the King Abdullah Financial District Development and Management Co., the first-ever Fashion Awards in the country was presented by the Chalhoub Group.

The event celebrated designers and companies in the fashion, beauty, and retail industries, with accolades such as the Sustainability Award for eco-conscious brand Chaldene, owned by Saudi women. Al-Anoud Al-Suwailem took home the Fashion Stylist Award, and Norah Al-Amri won the Fashion Photography Award.

Among the winners were streetwear brand 1886 for Menswear, Kaf by Kaf for Womenswear, Dar Al-Hanouf for Bridal Brand, and Yataghan for Jewelry Brand. Loro Piana received the International Brand of the Year Award, with Norma Kamali winning the International Designer of the Year Award.

Notable Saudi Arabian brands like Dracaena Cinnabari, Yousef Akbar, and Atelier Hekayat were also nominated for awards at the event. The gala meal was further elevated by a performance from Saudi singer Loulwa.

Fashion Commission CEO Burak Cakmak, Fairchild Media Group Editor James Fallon, and representatives from the Chalhoub Group were on hand to present the awards. The jury comprised of senior executives and managers from the Chalhoub Group, Mytheresa, LVMH, and Hia Magazine.
