Saudi Arabia Launches Initiatives to Minimize Food Waste
In a bid to tackle food waste, Saudi Arabia has rolled out a series of initiatives aimed at promoting sustainability and reducing environmental impact.
The Grace Preservation Foundation recently unveiled strategic programs during a ceremony in Riyadh to mark the International Day of Zero Waste.
The event, graced by Saudi Minister of Municipal, Rural Affairs, and Housing Majed Al-Hogail and other senior officials, introduced food service companies to a quality mark and a national charter focused on waste reduction.
Al-Hogail, who also serves as the foundation’s chairman, emphasized the importance of raising awareness about the negative effects of food wastage on the environment, economy, and society.
Foundation CEO Abdullah Binsaeed highlighted the significance of collaboration between individuals and public and private sectors to conserve food in accordance with Islamic principles of waste reduction and equitable surplus distribution.
The ceremony showcased the launch of a national charter to minimize waste and the unveiling of a quality mark to aid food service companies in cutting down on food waste.
Additionally, officials introduced the Grace Preservation platform and app, offering services to food service associations and the wider community to support sustainable growth in the food preservation sector.
Through these programs, support will be extended to food preservation associations while encouraging the private sector to adopt sustainable practices for waste reduction and collaborate with government agencies on developing national strategies to combat food waste.
