Breaking News: Saudi Project Removes 719 Houthi Mines in Yemen

Saudi Arabia’s Project Masam clears 719 mines in Yemen, saving lives

In a recent report, Saudi Arabia’s Project Masam has successfully cleared 719 mines in Yemen, planted by the Houthi militia, between April 27 to May 3. This initiative, overseen by the Kingdom’s aid agency KSrelief, has been crucial in ensuring the safety of civilians in the war-torn country.

Demining operations target dangerous explosives

Special teams involved in Project Masam have destroyed 631 pieces of unexploded ordnance, 83 anti-tank mines, three improvised explosive devices, and two anti-personnel mines. These explosives, planted indiscriminately by the Houthis, pose a significant threat to the lives of children, women, and the elderly in Yemen.

Initiative clears routes for humanitarian aid

At the request of King Salman, Saudi Arabia has undertaken several initiatives to clear routes for humanitarian aid to reach Yemen’s citizens. The demining operations have taken place in various regions, including Marib, Aden, Jouf, Shabwa, Taiz, Hodeidah, Lahij, Sanaa, Al-Bayda, Al-Dhale, and Saada.

Training local engineers and supporting the injured

Since the start of the initiative in 2018, a total of 439,132 mines have been cleared by Project Masam. The initiative also focuses on training local demining engineers, providing them with modern equipment, and offering support to Yemenis injured by the devices.

Protecting civilians and delivering aid

About 5 million people have been displaced from their homes due to the conflict in Yemen, many of them forced to flee due to the presence of land mines. Masam teams are dedicated to clearing villages, roads, and schools to ensure the safe movement of civilians and the delivery of much-needed humanitarian aid.
