Mayyas Dance Group Set to Wow Lebanese Audience with Dramatic Performance

Lebanese dance group Mayyas, winners of “America’s Got Talent,” are gearing up for a special performance in Lebanon on Aug. 1. Founder and choreographer Nadim Cherfan revealed to Arab News that the team is venturing into the realm of drama for the first time.

Cherfan shared, “We are doing a dramatic scene. People are used to seeing the Mayas perform mythology and fantasy, but this is the first time we’re delving into drama.”

Describing the upcoming show, Cherfan teased that it will offer a “realistic” reflection of the daily lives of Lebanese people.

The choreographer drew inspiration from the women in his life, stating, “I was raised by a single mom and my grandma, so I always see strength in women. To me, Beirut is a woman. This theater play is a tribute to every mother in Lebanon.”

Cherfan emphasized that the dancers are fueled by their love for the project and the country, saying, “When you are doing what you love, motivation comes second. Everyone working on this project is driven by passion and love for this country.”

Aside from their victory on “America’s Got Talent,” a standout moment for Mayyas was sharing the stage with Beyonce at the opening of Atlantis The Royal in Dubai in 2023.

Reflecting on this experience, Cherfan expressed, “Beyonce has been my dream since I was a child. She is the artist of my life, and working with her made my dream come true.”

Speaking about their performances in Saudi Arabia, Cherfan praised the country’s support for the arts, stating, “Saudi Arabia has been another home to the Mayyas. The way we are treated in Saudi Arabia is top-notch — very respectful and generous.”
