King Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies Teams Up with UNESCO to Establish UNESCO Chair in Translating Cultures
In a groundbreaking move, the King Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies has partnered with the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization to create the UNESCO Chair in Translating Cultures.
The agreement, sealed by the center’s secretary-general, Princess Maha bint Mohammed Al-Faisal, and UNESCO’s director general, Audrey Azoulay, marks a significant milestone in promoting interdisciplinary research in the humanities and social sciences, as well as fostering inclusive education and cultural diversity.
Dr. Moneera Al-Ghadeer to Lead UNESCO Chair
Under the leadership of Dr. Moneera Al-Ghadeer and with the support of the Literature, Publishing and Translation Commission of Saudi Arabia, the UNESCO Chair in Translating Cultures aims to facilitate innovative research collaborations on a global scale.
Reviving Cultural Heritage Through Translation
Dr. Al-Ghadeer emphasized the importance of the UNESCO Chair in reviving ancient translation movements that have shaped the cultural landscape of the past. By drawing on Arab civilizational heritage, the chair envisions a future where translation plays a pivotal role in knowledge dissemination and cultural exchange.
Translating Cultures Lab: A Hub for Comparative Research
In addition to establishing the UNESCO Chair, a Translating Cultures Lab has been set up to conduct comparative theoretical research on translating cultures, with a specific focus on Saudi Arabia and the Arab world. This initiative aims to explore cultural interactions between countries of the Global South and promote linguistic diversity.
