Saudi Embassy in US Takes Second Place in Embassy Chef Challenge
In a dazzling display of culinary talent, the Saudi Embassy in the US secured second place in the People’s Choice category at the recent Embassy Chef Challenge held at Union Station in Washington, D.C.
Led by the embassy’s representative, chef Bandar Al-Hanaki, a team of young Saudi nationals showcased their skills in the culinary arts by presenting signature dishes such as jareesh, date cake, pistachio cake, truffles, and authentic Saudi coffee. The preparation process for these delicacies was demonstrated by Chef Al-Hanaki, wowing the audience with his expertise.
Adding to the cultural showcase, the Saudi ardah, a traditional dance, was performed at the event and received enthusiastic applause from attendees. The combination of exquisite cuisine and traditional entertainment made the Saudi Embassy a standout at the competition.
Now in its 15th year, the Embassy Chef Challenge featured 40 countries vying to promote culinary diplomacy and offer Washington’s food enthusiasts a taste of dishes typically reserved for embassy guests. Chefs competed for the coveted People’s Choice Award, determined by guests’ votes, as well as the Judges’ Choice Award, selected by a panel of influential members from the cultural and culinary communities.
Ultimately, it was chefs Damian Leach and Ann-Marie Leach from the Embassy of Barbados who clinched first place in the People’s Choice category with their tantalizing curry lamb and breadfruit cou-cou. The competition was fierce, but the Saudi Embassy’s impressive showing solidified its reputation as a force to be reckoned with in the culinary world.
