Youth Storytellers Bring Saudi History to Life at Rawi Diriyah Competition

Young Saudi storytellers have captivated audiences with tales of the Kingdom’s most pivotal moments at the Rawi Diriyah competition. This annual contest, in collaboration with the Diriyah Gate Development Authority and the Ministry of Education, aims to educate students about Saudi Arabia’s rich history and tradition of storytelling.

A Glimpse into Saudi Arabia’s Cultural Heritage

Jerry Inzerillo, CEO of the Diriyah Gate Development Authority, praised the initiative for offering a captivating insight into Diriyah and the Kingdom’s cultural and social heritage. He highlighted the importance of understanding historical events and the achievements of influential figures in shaping Saudi Arabia’s legacy.

Thousands of Students Participate

More than 13,000 students participated in this year’s competition, with the final event held on Friday. The 12 winners were rewarded with an Exceed vehicle by Sanibel Modern Motors, the official sponsor of the competition.

From Intensive Competition to Final Showcase

After months of intense competition, 100 students advanced to the final stages of the contest. The 12 winners showcased their storytelling skills at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of At-Turaif, highlighting key moments in the Kingdom’s history.

Young Winner Shares Experience

One of the youngest winners, Tamim Turki Al-Harthi, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to participate in the closing ceremony. He shared his inspiration behind choosing the story of Faisal Tower and how it represents the link between the past and present in Saudi Arabia’s development.

Preserving Saudi History Through Storytelling

The competition focused on stories from the era of the first Saudi State in 1727, with the Ministry of Education and the Diriyah Gate Development Authority ensuring accurate historical information for students. Dr. Badran Al-Honaihen, senior director of cultural and historical validation, highlighted the success of the initiative in engaging over 190,000 participants.

Empowering Students to Share Their Stories

Students shared a variety of stories during the competition, including “I am Nora’s brother,” “As-Saif Al-Ajrab,” and “The Story of the Prince.” Al-Honaihen emphasized the significance of these stories and credited the Education Ministry for their partnership in making the initiative a success.

Highlighting Saudi Culture and Traditions

Some of the stories shared during the competition focused on the Year of Mercy, Thumamah bin Athal, Zarqa Al-Yamama, the Ardah dance, and the Salwa Palace, showcasing the diversity and richness of Saudi Arabia’s cultural heritage.
