Saudi Arabia’s Museums Commission Debuts “Art of the Kingdom” Exhibition in Brazil
The Museums Commission of Saudi Arabia is set to unveil the country’s first traveling contemporary exhibition, “Art of the Kingdom,” at the iconic Paco Imperial building in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, this week.
Exploring “Poetic Illuminations” Theme
Running from Nov. 13 to Jan. 12, the exhibition is themed “Poetic Illuminations,” offering international audiences a glimpse into Saudi Arabia’s dynamic contemporary art scene.
A Diverse Showcase of Saudi Artists
Featuring the works of 17 artists representing various generations and styles, “Art of the Kingdom” includes mediums such as paintings, installations, and video art. Artists like Ahmed Mater, Lina Gazzaz, and Moath Alofi are among the talented individuals showcased.
Global Tour of the Exhibition
Following its debut in Brazil, the exhibition will travel to Riyadh in early 2025, then to the National Museum of China in Beijing later that year. This global tour aims to highlight and promote Saudi artists on an international stage.
Empowering Saudi Artists
Through “Art of the Kingdom,” the museums authority seeks to empower Saudi artists by showcasing their work worldwide. The exhibition also aims to foster cross-cultural appreciation and dialogue while establishing Saudi Arabia’s presence in the global art landscape.
Exploring Saudi Culture Through Art
The exhibition delves into two primary themes: the symbolism of the desert and the evolution of Saudi cultural traditions through visual art. Artists like Muhannad Shono aim to bridge cultural divides and spark meaningful dialogue through their work.
Unique Collaborations and Perspectives
Artists Sara Abu Abdallah and Ghada Al-Hassan present a collaborative piece that explores intergenerational bonds and shared visions. Their work, “Horizontal Dimensions,” aims to contribute to the global conversation on cultural exchange and regional narratives.
