World Music Day Celebration in Jeddah

On a magical evening at the Jeddah Cultural Club, the French Consulate in Jeddah and the French Embassy in Riyadh joined forces to host a spectacular World Music Day event. The air was filled with a variety of genres, including electronic, soul, deep house, pop, and more, all centered around the theme of “Franco-Saudi Friendship.”

Honoring Female Voices

The event paid special tribute to two talented female voices – Nadeen Linjawi, also known as Fulana, and Canine, a creation of French composer and singer Magali Cotta. Fulana, a rising Saudi singer, took the stage first, expressing her gratitude for representing the voice of young Saudis.

Linjawi, who goes by the name “Fulana” meaning “anybody”, shared her deeply personal and emotional songs revolving around themes of loss, confusion, and loneliness. Her music resonated with the audience, showcasing her unique talent and storytelling abilities.

Canine’s Electrifying Performance

In the second part of the event, Canine mesmerized the audience with a blend of electro-pop, soul, and hip-hop. The performance, accompanied by surreal arrangements and intimate lyrics, captivated the crowd and left them wanting more.

Magali Cotta’s Musical Journey

Magali Cotta, the creative force behind Canine, shared insights into her creative process and the evolution of her sound. Her music combines acoustic and electronic instruments, creating a unique and emotional experience for the listeners.

Cotta’s performance not only showcased Saudi Arabia’s growing electro-pop scene but also emphasized the universal language of music, transcending cultural boundaries.

Empowering Femininity Through Music

Cotta emphasized the power of femininity and the group’s representation of musical roles traditionally dominated by males. She expressed a desire to move the Saudi audience through their music, portraying femininity as a force of nature with both fragility and strength.

Future Plans

As Cotta continues to work on her third album, she looks forward to returning to Saudi Arabia with new performances. The event was a testament to the power of music in bringing people together and celebrating cultural exchange.
