Discover the Magic of Dar Festival at Al-Mousa Heritage Village with Millstone

Traditional Tool Attracts Visitors at Al-Mousa Heritage Village

During the second Dar Festival at Al-Mousa Heritage Village in Al-Baha, a traditional tool used to crush grains caught the attention of many visitors.

The millstone, once a common household item in the region, was used to crush grains and perform the same function as modern flour milling machines.

According to Khalid Azeb Al-Zahrani, supervisor of Al-Mousa Heritage Village, the millstone was a fundamental tool in old houses and could be found in every home in the region’s villages for flour and grain milling purposes.

Describing the millstone, Al-Zahrani said, “It consists of two circular stones placed on top of each other, with the upper stone slightly larger than the lower one. A small hole in the middle allows grains to enter, with a pillar for balance maintenance during rotation. At one end of the upper stone, there is a wooden pillar for holding and rotating during the grinding process.”
