Assouline Unveils ‘AlUla Flora’ Masterpiece

Luxury publishing house Assouline has recently released its latest masterpiece, “AlUla Flora,” showcasing the diverse plant life that flourishes in the ancient oasis city of AlUla in northwest Saudi Arabia.

The book, part of Assouline’s “Classics Collection,” features text by Abdulaziz Assaeed, a professor of rangeland ecology at King Saud University, Riyadh, and stunning images by young Saudi photographer Hayat Osamah.

Accompanied by artwork from Carolyn Jenkins, Lil Sire, Raxenne, Moira Frith, and Mary Woodin, “AlUla Flora” follows the success of last year’s “AlUla Ever” by offering readers a visual and educational journey through the city’s lush ecosystems.

Exploring AlUla’s Botanical World

The book highlights over 80 plant species thriving in AlUla’s diverse landscapes, ranging from rocky sandstone outcrops to a verdant oasis filled with natural springs.

From the Hispid Viper’s-bugloss to the spiny milkvetch and the jujube tree, each plant is not only recognized for its ecological significance but also for its cultural importance in local traditions.

Chief tourism officer Phillip Jones emphasizes that “‘AlUla Flora’ opens a window to the city’s fascinating botanical world, inviting visitors and locals to discover and connect with nature in AlUla.”

Conservation Efforts in AlUla

The publication of “AlUla Flora” underscores AlUla’s commitment to environmental conservation and ecotourism, with more than half of the city’s geographical boundaries designated as protected nature reserves.

Efforts to restore and rewild ecosystems and reintroduce native species like Arabian gazelles, sand gazelles, Arabian oryx, and Nubian ibex highlight AlUla’s dedication to sustainability and preserving its ecological heritage.

AlUla’s legacy as a region in harmony with nature is being revitalized, paving the way for a future where both nature and humanity can thrive together.
