Volunteer Spirit Shines in Makkah During Hajj Season

Every year, a wave of Saudi youths from all corners of the Kingdom unite to support Hajj pilgrims on their sacred journey, showcasing a variety of initiatives aimed at treating worshippers like esteemed guests.

The dedication and creativity of these volunteers are on full display as they work tirelessly, utilizing their skills, expertise, and talents to provide top-notch services to the pilgrims, under the guidance of experienced supervisors.

Saudi Vision 2030 is actively promoting volunteerism, with the ambitious target of reaching 1 million volunteers by 2030.

Volunteering in Makkah encompasses a wide array of services, including guiding pilgrims to and from the Grand Mosque, distributing water bottles and meals, offering translation services for non-Arabic speakers, and overseeing all aspects of pilgrim services. (SPA)

Nawaf Khayyat, the chairman of the Makkah Guests Association, revealed that over 30 associations are dedicated to serving pilgrims during Hajj.

With the support of Saudi authorities, the association has launched more than 40 initiatives in its fourth year, with the number of volunteers on the national platform exceeding 1,700.

Year-round programs focus on training tour guides and qualifying female workers to serve pilgrims during Hajj.

Khayyat highlighted three key programs for this year’s Hajj season. The “Qiladah” program aims to educate bus drivers transporting pilgrims with the help of university academics, while an enrichment program is designed for tour guides, offering educational initiatives.

A third program involves cultural guides working with domestic pilgrim companies in cooperation with various entities, focusing on equipping guides with the knowledge and skills to interact with pilgrims.

The Al-Houda Charitable Association, led by Ali Al-Youbi, is actively involved in assisting pilgrims at Al-Juhfah, a key entry point for those entering the sacred state of Ihram.

During the Hajj season, the association focuses on providing essential services to pilgrims, including water distribution, refreshments, and creating memorable experiences for arriving worshippers.

Volunteers from various professions, such as doctors, teachers, and engineers, join hands to ensure the comfort and well-being of pilgrims during their pilgrimage.

Jameela Al-Hathli, a dedicated female volunteer, emphasized the importance of genuine love and care in volunteer work, aiming to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere for the pilgrims.

To break language barriers and showcase Saudi hospitality, volunteer translators proficient in multiple languages are essential, ensuring effective communication and a genuine spirit of hospitality throughout the pilgrimage.
