Riyadh Hosts Captivating Calligraphy Exhibition by Hassan Massoudy
The Hewar Art Gallery in Riyadh is currently showcasing a mesmerizing calligraphy exhibition by the renowned French-Iraqi artist Hassan Massoudy.

Journey of Inspiration
At 80 years old, Massoudy’s journey from the streets of Baghdad to the studios of Paris has been a tapestry of inspiration. He shared with Arab News, “When I was a child, I loved to draw. On the other hand, my mother often took me to visit my theologian and calligrapher uncle. I watched him trace the letters with slowness and diligence.”
Transformative Journey to France
In 1969, driven by his dream of pursuing art, Massoudy embarked on a transformative journey to France. He underwent training at the School of Fine Arts in Paris, immersing himself in various techniques and art forms.
Cultural Influences
Inspired by painters like Matisse, Picasso, and Soulage, Massoudy also drew influence from the Far East, particularly Chinese and Japanese calligraphies. This fusion of influences allowed him to create compositions that transcended linguistic boundaries.
