Exciting Collaboration: Egypt teams up with AMEA Power to boost renewable energy in Aswan and Gulf of Suez!

Egypt Signs Agreements with AMEA Power to Develop 500MW Wind Farm

Egypt has inked two deals with UAE-based AMEA Power to construct a 500-megawatt wind farm in the Gulf of Suez, bolstering the nation’s renewable energy sector.

The partnership, valued at $600 million, was sealed during the inauguration of the Abydos 1 solar power plant in Aswan.

Advancing Egypt’s Renewable Energy Sector

These agreements underscore Egypt’s dedication to diversifying the sector and progressing its national renewable energy strategy, as per a statement from the Cabinet.

The new wind project in the Gulf of Suez, situated at the northern tip of the Red Sea, will add 500 MW to Egypt’s energy grid, supporting the country’s target of generating 42 percent of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030.

The $600 million investment is anticipated to curb carbon emissions, create job opportunities, and boost Egypt’s energy security.

Inauguration of the Abydos 1 Solar Plant

The ceremony commemorated the launch of the Abydos 1 solar power plant in the Kom Ombo desert region of Aswan. Developed by AMEA Power, the solar facility is set to significantly enhance Egypt’s renewable energy production.

The project is part of a broader initiative to stabilize the national electricity grid, lessen reliance on fossil fuels, and decrease power outages, as per the Cabinet.

Egypt’s Commitment to Clean Energy

Egypt’s Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat commended the Abydos 1 project, emphasizing the country’s dedication to promoting clean energy and cutting down greenhouse gas emissions.

He highlighted the government’s continuous support for renewable energy projects and its efforts to attract global investments.

Strategic Partnerships for Renewable Energy

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly emphasized that these projects are vital steps in Egypt’s journey to becoming a regional leader in renewable energy. The government aims to leverage natural resources to meet its energy needs sustainably.

Madbouly also lauded the strategic partnership with AMEA Power, applauding the UAE company for delivering innovative and sustainable energy solutions. He expressed gratitude to President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi for his leadership in backing Egypt’s shift to clean energy.
