Aligning with Saudi Arabia’s Capital Projects Program

The initiative to enhance the stadium aligns with Saudi Arabia’s ambitious plan to construct sports facilities under its SR10.1 billion ($2.7 billion) capital projects program, showcasing the country’s commitment to promoting sports and hosting international events.

Call for Proposals and Future Plans

The Sports Ministry has already requested proposals for the project and is expecting bids by June 14. Additionally, the ministry has also tendered contracts for the expansion and development of the Prince Mohammed bin Fahd Stadium in Dammam, demonstrating a comprehensive approach to upgrading sports infrastructure across the country.

Upcoming Construction Projects

The ministry has invited firms to submit pre-qualification documents for main construction contracts, including increasing the capacity of King Fahd Stadium in Riyadh to 92,000 seats and Prince Mohammed Bin Fahd Stadium to 30,000 seats. Plans also include boosting the seating capacity of Prince Saud bin Jalawi Stadium in Al-Kahir and constructing a sustainable New Riyadh Stadium with 45,000 seats.

Focus on Training Facilities

In addition to stadium upgrades, the ministry’s projects program includes the construction of 30 new training grounds and facilities near the stadiums to be used for the 2027 competition, emphasizing the importance of providing top-notch facilities for athletes.

Timeline for Construction

Construction on these projects is set to begin in July 2024 and is scheduled to be completed by December 2025. With 18 facilities expected to be ready in time for the 2026 AFC Women’s Cup, Saudi Arabia is on track to transform its sports infrastructure and elevate its status as a host for major sporting events.
