Revolutionizing Art: “ETH3R” Showcases Immersive Digital Art in Jeddah

JEDDAH: Prepare to be transported into a world of art and technology as artist Paul Marlier and dancer Jeanne Morel unveil their interactive digital art display, “ETH3R,” at Jeddah’s cultural hotspot, Hayy Jameel.

The dynamic duo from France has created a mesmerizing collection of immersive artworks generated using Morel’s biometric data, captured during her movements in extreme environments, including zero-gravity settings.

Blending cutting-edge technology with creative flair, “ETH3R” offers a fresh perspective on reality, challenging the mundane routines of daily life.

In an exclusive interview with Arab News, Marlier delved into the creative process behind their digital masterpieces. He shared insights into how the artworks were inspired by human and scientific data collected during their unique experiences.

“It is truly a delight to be here, especially at Hayy Jameel, where art and science converge to create a sensory experience like no other,” Marlier expressed. “Our work represents the essence of the world — the beautiful dance of our souls.”

He continued, “ETH3R showcases paintings and dynamic installations derived from the biometric data of my wife, Jeanne Morel, as she dances in various extreme environments, from the depths of the ocean to high-altitude astronaut training.”

Marlier has seamlessly integrated scientific data on human physiology with other information, including air quality, satellite imagery, and facts from the Red Sea to craft emotional imprints that capture moments of grace. It’s a collaborative effort that transcends boundaries.

Detailing the process further, he explained, “With Jeanne as the catalyst, adorned with sensors like a paintbrush, her dance emotions are translated into digital art through code. We explore themes of fragility, spirituality, and the harmonious relationship between humans and nature — the universal dance.”

“We don’t just see data as numbers; we experience it as sensations, allowing us to share a unique journey. By capturing a plethora of information from this exceptional dancer, we aim to materialize the essence of grace,” Marlier emphasized.

Morel added her perspective, stating, “Dance is a profound way to express emotions, sometimes more eloquently than words.”

“Dance symbolizes life’s journey. It keeps me connected to the movements of the world, as our bodies dance on this earth, which itself dances around the sun, all sustained by gravity,” she added.

Reflecting on their first visit to the Kingdom, Marlier shared, “The people here are incredibly welcoming, and the spiritual and poetic essence is palpable.”

Morel echoed his sentiments, saying, “We appreciate the spiritual and open-minded approach towards art and digital art in this country.”

Art enthusiast Waleed Harthi praised the exhibition, stating, “Experiencing art that transcends boundaries was a captivating journey, stimulating our senses and igniting wonder at the fusion of art and technology. The live demonstration and dance provided a serene escape to a fantastical world.”

Don’t miss out on this extraordinary showcase of digital artistry, as the exhibition is set to run until May 11.
