Art Exhibition “Fictional Landscapes” Showcases 28 Women Artists from Around the World
The stunning art exhibition “Fictional Landscapes” is currently on display at Foundry Downtown Dubai in the UAE until Dec. 15. This exhibition features the works of 28 talented women artists from various countries including the UAE, Russia, Iran, Armenia, India, Pakistan, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Indonesia, Iceland, and the US.
Curated by Nadine Khalil, Alisa Bagdonaite, and Serafima Kostrova, the show aims to explore the shared experiences of women through art. The organizers intentionally collaborated with women-led galleries to provide a platform for underrepresented voices in the art world.
According to Bagdonaite, the exhibition is a way to amplify the voices of these women artists on a global scale and shed light on their interpretations of landscapes through their unique cultural perspectives.
Exploring Diverse Perspectives Through Various Artistic Mediums
Featuring both established and emerging artists, “Fictional Landscapes” showcases a diverse range of artistic mediums including textile, video, painting, and performance art. The exhibition delves into how landscapes go beyond physical terrains to embody mental and emotional spaces influenced by memory, identity, and migration.
Despite the artists’ diverse backgrounds, a shared resonance emerges in the exhibition, creating a cohesive narrative that transcends individual origins and invites viewers to engage in a deeper conversation about mutual discovery and understanding.
A Closer Look at a Standout Piece: “Canceled Constellations” by Alexandra Paperno
One particular piece that resonates with Bagdonaite is Alexandra Paperno’s “Canceled Constellations.” This artwork symbolizes constellations that were once acknowledged and named but later “canceled” by the International Astronomical Union in 1922. It speaks to humanity’s tendency to draw boundaries, even in the stars, while emphasizing what remains beyond our control and unites us all.
