Saudi Shoura Council Delegation Participates in G20 Women Parliamentarians Sessions in Brazil

The Saudi Shoura Council delegation, led by Mona bint Abdullah Al-Mushait and Alia bint Mohammed Al-Dahlawi, made their mark at the inaugural sessions of the G20 Women Parliamentarians in Maceio, Brazil.

In a powerful address, Al-Dahlawi underscored the pivotal role of Saudi women and the significant policy and legislative changes that have bolstered their involvement in national development.

“The ongoing transformation journey of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, guided by Vision 2030, has led to the creation of diverse job opportunities, ensuring holistic economic growth and equal chances for all to contribute to and benefit from our nation’s prosperity,” she stated.

Highlighting the progress made in empowering women economically, Al-Dahlawi pointed out that Saudi women’s participation in the labor market currently stands at 35.3 percent.

She emphasized that through concerted efforts in the Kingdom, women have become integral partners in national progress across various sectors such as commerce, engineering, sports, justice, and technology.

The two-day session, organized under Brazil’s G20 presidency for 2024, brought together female parliamentarians from G20 member states’ legislative assemblies, alongside representatives from international organizations and the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

Key topics discussed included the role of women in climate justice and sustainability, as well as initiatives aimed at boosting women’s participation and economic empowerment.
