JEDDAH Ministry Issues Warning Against Child Exploitation in Commercial Marketing
The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development has issued a stern warning regarding the exploitation of children for commercial marketing and advertising purposes, as reported by the Saudi Press Agency.
According to the Kingdom’s child protection laws, authorities are mandated to prevent the exploitation of children in commercial marketing, involvement in crimes, begging, or homelessness.
In a statement, the ministry emphasized the need to protect children from the negative effects of being exposed to large crowds, which can lead to anxiety, stress, and bullying.
The ministry’s recent monitoring revealed nonprofit organizations using children in Ramadan donation campaigns and marketing activities, which is a clear violation of the law.
During Ramadan, there is a surge in ads that exploit children for emotional manipulation. These ads often showcase children in distress, deprived of basic joys, or highlight the disparities between privileged and underprivileged children. Such tactics are designed to evoke strong emotions and prompt viewers to donate generously.
The ministry has vowed to take legal action against those who exploit children. It urges the public to report any suspected cases of child exploitation by calling 19911 or using its mobile application.
