ITA Airways Launches Nonstop Rome-Jeddah Flight

In a groundbreaking move, Italy’s flag carrier ITA Airways has officially inaugurated its first nonstop flight from Rome to Jeddah on August 1. This new route connects Rome Fiumicino Airport with King Abdulaziz International Airport, marking a significant milestone in air connectivity between Italy and Saudi Arabia.

Enhancing Air Connectivity with the Kingdom

Under the Kingdom’s Air Connectivity Program (ACP), ITA Airways will operate the Rome-Jeddah route three times a week using an Airbus A321neo aircraft. This initiative aims to strengthen air links between the two countries and facilitate smoother travel experiences for passengers.

Expanding Route Network

Joining other carriers like Wizz Air and Saudia, ITA Airways has expanded its presence in Saudi Arabia by adding Riyadh to its route network in June. Rome Fiumicino Airport has witnessed a surge in traffic to the Kingdom, with volumes quadrupling since 2019 and a 33 percent annual increase this year.

Unlocking Jeddah’s Potential

Jeddah Airports CEO Mazen Johar and ACP CEO Majid Khan expressed their excitement over the new Rome-Jeddah route, emphasizing the opportunities it creates for travelers from Italy, Europe, and the Americas to explore the rich cultural heritage of Jeddah. The ACP’s goal is to enhance air connectivity from various markets to Saudi Arabia, promoting tourism and economic growth.

Driving Tourism Growth

ITA Airways’ Chief Commercial Officer Emiliana Limosani highlighted the strategic importance of the new route in boosting tourism between Italy, Europe, and Saudi Arabia. This initiative plays a crucial role in attracting more visitors and expanding the tourism sector, further solidifying the ties between the two nations.
