Johnny Depp Feels “Perversely Lucky” to Play French King Louis XV in New Film
US actor Johnny Depp expressed his gratitude at being cast as French King Louis XV in the UK premiere of “Jeanne du Barry,” stating that he felt “strangely, oddly, perversely lucky” to have been given the opportunity.
The Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea Film Festival Foundation played a significant role in providing post-production support for the period drama, marking a historic moment as the foundation co-produced a French movie for the first time.
Depp took the stage alongside the film’s co-star and director Maïwenn at the Curzon theater in Mayfair, where they introduced the film to the audience.
Reflecting on his role, Depp shared, “I feel very lucky to have been [offered the role] – strangely, oddly, perversely lucky… Suddenly you end up playing the King of France, which is a stark contrast to my humble beginnings in Kentucky.”
