UNESCO Learning City of Jubail to Host International Conference on Learning Cities
Jubail in Saudi Arabia, a proud member of UNESCO’s Global Network of Learning Cities, is gearing up to host the sixth International Conference on Learning Cities from December 3 to 5.
Director of the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning, Isabell Kempf, emphasized the crucial role of UNESCO learning cities in fostering climate consciousness and equipping residents with green skills for a sustainable society. She highlighted that the upcoming conference in Jubail will pave the way for impactful climate action.
King Salman to Patronize the Event
The international event will take place at the offices of the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu, hosted by Jubail Industrial City. King Salman will serve as the patron of the event, aligning with his belief in international cooperation to address global challenges and achieve sustainable development through education.

The Saudi Press Agency reported that hosting the conference confirms Jubail Industrial City’s pioneering role as a model for education in sustainable development. Jubail was selected to host the conference due to its dedication to enhancing lifelong learning opportunities and active participation in the Global Network of Learning Cities since 2020. The city received the UNESCO Learning Cities Award in 2021 for its efforts in sustainable development, entrepreneurship, and skills improvement.

The theme of the conference, “Learning Cities at the Forefront of Climate Action,” aligns with the Saudi and Middle East Green Initiatives spearheaded by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. It focuses on promoting lifelong learning as a key strategy for climate action and sustainable development.
