Massive 65K Pakistani Hajj Pilgrims to Embrace Makkah Route Innovation!

The Makkah Route Initiative Expands to Benefit Pakistani Pilgrims

Exciting news for Pakistani pilgrims as over 65,000 of them are set to benefit from Saudi Arabia’s Makkah Route Initiative during this year’s Hajj pilgrimage. This is a significant increase from the 26,000 pilgrims who utilized the facility from the Pakistan capital in 2023.

Expansion to Karachi Airport Approved

Last week, Pakistani officials confirmed that Saudi authorities have approved the expansion of the Makkah Route Initiative to the airport in Karachi, the country’s most populous city. Launched in 2019, the initiative was initially extended only to the airport in Islamabad.

Streamlining Immigration Procedures

The Makkah Route Initiative allows pilgrims to complete immigration procedures at their country of departure, bypassing long immigration and customs checks upon reaching Saudi Arabia. This facility significantly reduces waiting times, making the entry process smoother and faster.

Pakistan Prepares for Hajj 2024 Operations

Pakistan will launch Hajj 2024 operations from May 9 in eight airports across the country till June 9, with the pilgrimage expected to take place from June 14-19. A total of 65,000 Hajj pilgrims will utilize the Route to Makkah facility at Karachi and Islamabad airports this year.

Government Scheme Breakdown

Of the 65,000 pilgrims, 41,000 will use the facility under the government’s Hajj scheme, while the remaining 24,000 will rely on private tour operators. Specifically, 29,500 pilgrims will use the facility from Islamabad, and 35,500 from Karachi airport.

Positive Changes for Pilgrims

This year, the Pakistani government has reduced Hajj expenses by Rs100,000 compared with last year. The government has also reduced the cost of plane tickets and introduced new options for pilgrims, including a shorter Hajj pilgrimage and exclusive accommodation choices for an additional fee.

Preparations for the Hajj have begun earlier this year, ensuring favorable accommodation for Pakistani pilgrims in Makkah, Madinah, and Mina. Despite global inflation, the government is committed to making the pilgrimage accessible and affordable for all pilgrims.
