May’s Japanese Crude Supply Dominated by Arab Oil

TOKYO IMPORTS: ARAB NATIONS DOMINATE JAPAN’S OIL IMPORTS

In a recent report by the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy, it was revealed that the Arab share of Japan’s oil imports for the month of May was a staggering 62.44 million barrels, accounting for a whopping 95.3 percent of all oil imported by Japan during that period. This highlights the significant reliance of Japan on Arab countries for its energy needs, showcasing the strategic importance of these nations in Japan’s energy security.

TOP SUPPLIERS

The UAE emerged as Japan’s top oil supplier, contributing a substantial 46.2 percent of the total imports for the month. Following closely behind were Kuwait and Qatar, providing 5.44 million barrels (8.3%) and 2.73 million barrels (4.2%) respectively. The Neutral Zone, a shared area between Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, also played a role by contributing 0.7 percent of Japan’s total imports.

SANCTIONS AND DIVERSIFICATION

Despite the dominance of Arab nations in Japan’s oil imports, the country maintained its sanctions on importing oil from Iran and Russia during May. The remaining 4.7 percent of imports came from a variety of countries, including the US (3.2%), Central and South America (0.9%), Southeast Asia (0.4%), and Oceania (0.2%). This diversification highlights Japan’s efforts to secure its energy supply from multiple sources.
