Eva Longoria and Michelle Yeoh Shine at Red Sea International Film Festival

Jeddah: The Red Sea International Film Festival in Jeddah was graced by the presence of Hollywood actress Eva Longoria and Oscar-winning actress and producer Michelle Yeoh, who left the audience in awe with their insights into the film industry during two captivating “In Conversation” panels.

Empowering Purpose-Driven Storytelling and Breaking Barriers

As the festival unfolds until Dec. 14 in Al-Balad, Longoria and Yeoh delved into the importance of purpose-driven storytelling, cultural representation, and breaking barriers in cinema.

Eva Longoria: A Cultural Impact Through Film

Longoria, famous for her role in “Desperate Housewives” and her directorial debut in “Flamin’ Hot,” expressed her dedication to producing films that make a cultural impact.

“If we’re going to change the world, it’s going to be through culture. And who has the biggest impact on pop culture? Media — TV, films. If I can make things that change culture, culture changes minds and hearts,” Longoria stated.

Michelle Yeoh: Defying Expectations in Action Films

Yeoh, known for her roles in “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” and “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” shared her experience with martial arts choreography and the art of movement in action sequences.

“Action is like dance. Everything’s choreographed, but the projection of power and timing are different. It’s a blend of grace, speed, and impact,” Yeoh explained.

Championing Diversity and Authenticity in Cinema

Both Longoria and Yeoh emphasized the importance of representation and diversity in the film industry. Longoria focuses on breaking barriers for women and people of color, while Yeoh champions cultural representation and authentic storytelling.

“It’s crucial to create equal opportunities for storytellers to tell their stories in their own way. That’s how the industry evolves,” Yeoh emphasized.

A Star-Studded Lineup

The festival also features renowned figures like Academy Award-winning actor Brendan Fraser, director and producer Michael Mann, actress Olivia Wilde, and more, showcasing a diverse range of talent from around the world.
