Saudi Math Students Shine at Asian Pacific Mathematics Olympiad

In a stunning display of mathematical prowess, Saudi students emerged victorious at the 36th annual Asian Pacific Mathematics Olympiad, beating out competitors from 38 countries. According to the Saudi Press Agency, the talented team from Saudi Arabia, representing the King Abdulaziz and his Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba) and the Education Ministry, clinched a total of 10 awards in the prestigious competition.

The Saudi team’s impressive haul included two silver medals, five bronze medals, and three certificates of commendation, outshining 345 other students. Youssef Bakheet from the educational directorate of the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu, along with Muath Al-Qahtani from the Eastern Province, were the recipients of the coveted silver medals.

Bronze medals were awarded to Mohammed Al-Ghamdi and Ilyas Al-Faraj from the Eastern Province, Ahmed Al-Shahri from Riyadh, Fatima Bouali from Al-Ahsa, and Ahmed Khalawi from Jeddah. Additionally, certificates of commendation were presented to Mohammed Hafez and Abdul Salam Al-Salmi from Madinah, as well as Youssef Khalawi from Jeddah.

Amal Al-Hazaa, the Secretary-General of Mawhiba, expressed immense pride in the team’s outstanding performance and highlighted the significance of their achievement for the nation as a whole.

The participation in the APMO is a testament to the success of the Mawhiba program for international Olympiads, which is conducted in close collaboration with the Education Ministry. This initiative is part of a comprehensive range of 20 programs and initiatives that offer advanced curricula and enrichment programs to nurture the talents of gifted students each year.
