The “Crafting Design Futures” exhibition will kick off on Nov. 30 as part of the Qatar-Morocco 2024 Year of Culture celebration.

Nine designers from Qatar and Morocco will present specially created works that reflect the unique characteristics of each maker’s homeland and culture.
Design Doha Residency Program
Curated by Gwen Farrelly, the exhibition will feature new works by designers from both countries created during the Design Doha Residency Program 2024, which runs until Jan. 7, 2025.
Promoting Exchange and Collaboration
The Design Doha Residency Program aims to foster long-term exchanges of knowledge, craft, and design practices between regional designers from the Middle East and North Africa region.
Interpreting Traditional Craft Skills
Designers from Qatar and Morocco have interpreted traditional craft-making skills acquired during the exchange program to create multifunctional installations, products, and artistic displays that highlight important cultural narratives.
Exploring Different Craft Traditions
Participants from both countries immersed themselves in each other’s craft traditions, ranging from ceramics to textiles, to develop new works that reflect and support the heritage and contemporary practices of their cultures.
Creative Interpretations
Designers like Abdulrahman Al-Muftah incorporated unique materials like wood into their works, drawing inspiration from Moroccan artist Hamza Kadiri’s innovative techniques to create something uniquely their own.

The exhibition aims to go beyond showcasing beauty and innovation to reflect the mission of Qatar’s Years of Culture by transcending borders and culture through creativity.
