Students Walk Out of Duke University Commencement Ceremony Over Jerry Seinfeld’s Support for Israel
In a bold move, several students at Duke University made their voices heard by walking out of the commencement ceremony to protest comedian Jerry Seinfeld’s support for Israel during the war in Gaza.
A video of the incident, shared on X (formerly known as Twitter), captured the moment when a group of students stood up from their seats and proudly carried a Palestinian flag as Seinfeld was called to the stage.
Despite the attention on the protesters, the cheering crowd quickly shifted focus by chanting, “Jerry! Jerry!” as Seinfeld proceeded to deliver his speech and receive an honorary degree from Duke.
Nevertheless, amidst the cheers, boos and cries of “Free Palestine” could still be heard echoing in the audience.
Seinfeld’s public stance in support of Israel following Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack has been well-documented. He even took a trip to Israel in December, where he met with families of hostages and visited a kibbutz.
This walkout at Duke University’s graduation ceremony is just the latest in a series of protests sweeping across US campuses, as students demand universities to divest from arms suppliers and other companies profiting from the ongoing war.
