Qatar’s Construction Sector Booming with 36% Increase in Building Permits

In a remarkable show of strength, Qatar’s construction sector is currently experiencing a robust growth phase, with a staggering 36 percent month-on-month rise in building permits recorded in July.

The latest data from the National Planning Council highlights this surge, showcasing the increasing momentum in urban development fueled by investments from both the public and private sectors.

According to the council, data on building permits and completion certificates holds significant importance as it provides valuable insights into the performance of the construction sector, a key player in the national economy.

This uptick in construction activity aligns with Qatar’s broader economic objectives outlined in the National Vision 2030, a strategic plan aimed at transforming the country into a diversified and sustainable economy.

The building permits issued encompassed various types of buildings, with new constructions accounting for 36 percent of the total permits. Notably, residential permits took the lead, with villas making up 86 percent of new residential permits.

Within the non-residential category, industrial buildings took the top spot with 39 percent, followed by service infrastructure buildings and mosques. The distribution of permits reflects the diverse nature of Qatar’s construction landscape.

In the month of July, Al-Rayyan municipality emerged as the frontrunner in issuing building permits, claiming 26 percent of the total permits. Doha and Al-Da’ayen followed closely behind with 21 percent and 20 percent, respectively.
