Riyadh’s Qiddiya City Leading the Way in Sustainable Development

In a groundbreaking move, the Qiddiya Investment Company unveiled its inaugural environmental, social, and governance report on Wednesday to mark World Environment Day 2024.

Located on the outskirts of Riyadh, Qiddiya City is a colossal entertainment project in the making, with a vision to become a beacon of sustainable urban development.

Abdullah Nasser Al-Dawood, the company’s managing director, emphasized that the city will play a pivotal role in advancing Saudi Vision 2030’s objectives and supporting global sustainability efforts, such as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The report showcased Qiddiya’s commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2060, aligning with national strategies. This goal will be pursued through a range of initiatives targeting water conservation, waste management, recycling, and eco-friendly transportation.

Among these initiatives are plans to treat all wastewater, repurpose 90 percent of organic waste as fertilizer for green spaces, and install electric vehicle charging stations in 80 percent of parking facilities by 2035.

Furthermore, the report underscored the city’s dedication to the well-being and rights of its workforce, with a focus on promoting health, safety, and inclusivity in the workplace. Qiddiya aims to create over 325,000 job opportunities, with a commitment to empowering women by ensuring they represent 40 percent of the workforce and hold 30 percent of leadership roles by 2030.

To promote accessibility and inclusivity, discounted tickets will be offered to low-income individuals visiting Qiddiya City, ensuring that everyone has the chance to experience its world-class entertainment offerings.
