Saudi Arabia’s Capital City Embarks on Transformative Infrastructure Development

Riyadh, the capital city of Saudi Arabia, is on the brink of a major transformation with the issuance of its first project license by the Riyadh Infrastructure Projects Center. This marks a crucial moment in the city’s journey towards integrated planning and sustainable infrastructure development.

A Shift Towards Comprehensive Planning and Sustainable Expansion

The recent delegation of licensing responsibilities to the center has paved the way for a comprehensive approach to planning and expanding infrastructure in the region. The issuance of a nine-day license for utility connection excavations on June 10 signals the start of a phased approach to licensing aimed at meeting market demands efficiently.

Efficient Market Responsiveness and Streamlined Processes

Tariq bin Mohammed Al-Harbi, the Vice President for Operations at RIPC, highlighted the gradual issuance of licenses to ensure market responsiveness. The center is focused on enhancing efficiency and expediting processes through direct electronic interfaces with relevant entities, enabling instant data verification. This approach will streamline operations and improve overall effectiveness.

Objectives of the Riyadh Infrastructure Projects Center

Al-Harbi outlined the diverse objectives of the center, including improving infrastructure project planning and execution, promoting collaboration among stakeholders, and establishing strategic partnerships. The center is also dedicated to revitalizing urban environments to enhance citizen and resident satisfaction.

Standardizing Procedures and Embracing Sustainable Practices

Efforts are underway to standardize permit and licensing procedures, as well as digitize project plans and information to meet international standards. These initiatives aim to enhance the quality of infrastructure projects and optimize expenditure in urban areas.

Commitment to Sustainable Development and Vision 2030

Established by a decree from the Council of Ministers, RIPC aims to advance infrastructure projects, improve quality of life, and promote sustainable development in urban areas. The board of directors, led by Mayor Faisal bin Abdulaziz bin Ayyaf, includes representatives from key ministries and commissions. Riyadh is committed to becoming a global leader in sustainability through sustainable business models, improving quality of life, reducing visual pollution, and enhancing expenditure efficiency in line with the goals of Vision 2030.
