In a bold display of dedication to advancing global biodiversity and environmental protection, Saudi Arabia’s delegates made their mark at the 16th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity in Cali, Colombia.
Leading the Charge
The delegation, led by Mohammad Qurban, CEO of the National Center for Wildlife, emphasized the Kingdom’s unwavering commitment to conservation efforts.
Peace with Nature
Representatives from 196 countries gathered under the theme “Peace with Nature” to discuss strategies and initiatives for preserving the planet’s biodiversity.
Ambitious Goals
Saudi Arabia reaffirmed its ambitious goal to protect 30 percent of its land and marine areas by 2030, aligning with the UN’s biodiversity conservation objectives and showcasing proactive conservation efforts.
Recognition and Certification
Saudi Arabia was honored with the prestigious “Green List” certification at COP16 for its achievements in sustainable biodiversity practices at the King Salman Royal Natural Reserve and the Ibex Protected Area.
Global Collaboration
The Saudi delegation stressed the importance of expanding data sources for biodiversity monitoring and integrating regional efforts with global biodiversity goals to strengthen conservation strategies.

Reflecting on the Kingdom’s commitment to ecosystem protection and biodiversity enhancement, Qurban expressed optimism about the conference’s potential to drive meaningful global biodiversity outcomes and inspire innovative solutions for sustainable development.
National Initiatives
Saudi Arabia’s delegates also highlighted national conservation initiatives and extended invitations to global counterparts for the upcoming Conference of the Parties to Combat Desertification, which the Kingdom will host in December.
