Saudi Arabia Calls for Ceasefire in Gaza at Islamic Summit Conference

BANJUL, The Gambia: In a powerful statement at the 15th Islamic Summit Conference in The Gambia, Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Prince Faisal Bin Farhan reiterated the Kingdom’s urgent appeal for an immediate and enduring ceasefire in Gaza. He emphasized the need for safe humanitarian corridors and the realization of Palestinians’ legitimate rights, including their right to self-determination and an independent state.

Representing Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman, Prince Faisal led the Saudi delegation at the conference where he also called for the restructuring, development, and reform of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to effectively address regional and international challenges.

Expressing disappointment over the lack of action by the UN Security Council and the international community to stop Israeli attacks on Palestinians, Prince Faisal stated, “The Palestinian cause has remained a top priority for the OIC since its inception.”

He condemned the escalating Israeli attacks in Gaza, which have resulted in the indiscriminate shelling, destruction of vital infrastructure like hospitals and schools, and the tragic loss of innocent lives, including children, women, and the elderly.

On the sidelines of the conference, Prince Faisal held discussions with the Iranian and Pakistani foreign ministers, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and Ishaq Dar respectively, to address the dire situation in Gaza.
