Saudi officials foil 240kg qat smuggling plot: A daring escape gone wrong

Saudi Border Guard Thwarts Smuggling Attempt of 240 kg of Qat

In a daring operation, officers in Asir’s Al-Raboah district managed to foil an attempt to smuggle 240 kg of qat into Saudi Arabia, as reported by the Saudi Press Agency on Wednesday.

The government is urging the public to be vigilant and report any suspected smuggling operations or customs violations to the confidential numbers 1910 and 00 966 114208417, or via email at [email protected].

To incentivize reporting, financial rewards are being offered for tips that lead to successful prosecutions.

Qat, a shrub native to the Arabian Peninsula, contains cathine and cathinone, substances known to cause excitement, euphoria, and loss of appetite.

However, it is important to note that in 1980, the World Health Organization declared that qat can lead to mild to moderate psychological dependence. Due to its potential risks, qat is banned in several countries, including Saudi Arabia.
