Saudi Scouts Shine in STEM Activities at International Jamboree

In a report from the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) on Friday, Saudi scouts participating in the 3rd International Muslim Scouts Jamboree in the US have made a mark in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

The Saudi Arabian Scouts Association (SASA) delegation is currently taking part in the week-long summer camp at Camp Strake in Houston, Texas. The jamboree, organized by the National Islamic Committee on Scouting under the Boy Scouts of America, opened on June 30 and will conclude on July 6.

Among the activities, scouts engaged in a competition on electrical and electronic engineering basics and designing robots using specialized software and hardware. They demonstrated precision in controlling the robot’s movements automatically and logically.

In addition to excelling in STEM, the Saudi scouts showcased their dedication to enhancing research and innovation skills, the report noted.

The participants also received training on safe motorcycle driving, leadership in scouting, and constructing various structures using wood and knots. They also learned to build cooking ovens and light fires correctly.

The summer camp agenda includes visits to NASA in Houston, workshops, and leisure activities like canoeing, swimming, and climbing. Leaders of the Saudi Arabian Scouts Association emphasized the importance of the global camp in highlighting the Kingdom’s contributions to the Islamic world, promoting values of peace and love, showcasing progress, and fostering cultural exchange.

During the event, scout leader Syed Ehtesham Naqvi praised the Saudi government for its services to Muslim pilgrims and visitors to the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah. He commended the Saudi scouting delegation for their dedication to serving pilgrims.

While scouting was officially established in Saudi Arabia in 1961, scouting activities in the Kingdom date back to 1943, according to historical accounts of the international movement.
