Saudi Arabia Launches National Center for Semiconductors

In a groundbreaking move for the Kingdom’s semiconductor industry, Saudi Arabia’s top research institutions have united to establish a national center dedicated to advancing the field of semiconductors.

Focus on Research and Development

The newly launched facility will prioritize research and development activities in the semiconductor sector, aiming to enhance local capabilities and drive innovation within the industry.

Announcement at Future of Semiconductors Forum

The collaboration between the two institutions was unveiled during the 3rd Future of Semiconductors Forum held in Riyadh. Speaking at the event, Munir El-Desouki, president of the King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership with King Abdullah University for Science and Technology to establish the National Capability Center for Semiconductors (NCCS).

Expanding Educational Opportunities

The center will provide access to 30 universities across Saudi Arabia and offer training programs to 500 Saudi students annually. Additionally, El-Desouki announced plans to launch a master’s program in collaboration with Princess Nourah Bint Abdulraham University and the University of California, Los Angeles.

Commitment to Innovation

KAUST President Tony Chan emphasized the institution’s dedication to fostering research and innovation in the semiconductor sector. He highlighted KAUST’s investments in establishing a cutting-edge semiconductor research and development facility and its efforts to collaborate with industry partners like Alat for training and research initiatives.

Future Plans and Initiatives

Chan also revealed the launch of a two-year diploma program focused on integrated circuit design to address the need for skilled manpower in the Kingdom. He pledged to double investments in training and research activities to further support the development of the semiconductor industry in Saudi Arabia.
