Savor Saudi Arabia’s Food Heritage with Culinary Caravan – Discover a Delicious Journey!

Saudi Culinary Delights Take Center Stage in Najran

In a celebration of Saudi Arabia’s rich culinary heritage, a mobile exhibition hosted by the Culinary Arts Commission is currently captivating visitors at King Fahd National Park in Najran, as reported by the Saudi Press Agency.

Exploring National Dishes and Desserts

The immersive event, running until April 20, showcases two iconic delicacies – jareesh and maqshush – in innovative and enticing ways. Jareesh, a savory dish of cracked wheat slow-cooked with vegetables and tomato sauce, takes the spotlight alongside maqshush, a buckwheat dessert topped with ghee, honey, dates, molasses, or sugar.

An Unforgettable Culinary Experience

Visitors to the culinary arts caravan can witness live cooking demonstrations, observe the preparation of the dishes, and indulge in freshly cooked samples, truly experiencing the essence of Saudi cuisine.

A Journey Through Saudi Culinary Traditions

The exhibition is part of the commission’s National and Regional Dishes Narratives initiative, dedicated to documenting and celebrating local culinary gems like jareesh and maqshush. By designating these dishes as national culinary treasures, the initiative highlights their importance in the Kingdom’s dining culture.

Preserving Heritage and Promoting Pride

The caravan, which began its journey in Riyadh last November, has traveled through various regions, including Makkah, Madinah, and the Eastern Province, with Najran being its latest stop. The initiative aims to deepen appreciation of local heritage, connect generations through culinary traditions, and instill pride in national dishes.

Official Dishes for Each Region

As part of the initiative, official dishes have been designated for each region, such as Marqooq for Riyadh, saleeg for Makkah, and bakila for Jouf. These dishes serve as culinary symbols representing the unique flavors and traditions of each area.

The Culinary Arts Commission’s commitment to preserving Saudi Arabia’s culinary heritage is evident in the success of the exhibition, which continues to delight and educate visitors about the country’s diverse and flavorful dishes.
