Shocking: Green Coverage in Imam Turki Royal Reserve Surges to 8.5%

Green Oasis in the Desert: Imam Turki bin Abdullah Royal Nature Reserve Flourishes

In a desert landscape covering 91,000 sq. km in the northeastern part of Saudi Arabia, a hidden gem awaits. The Imam Turki bin Abdullah Royal Nature Reserve is a haven for nature lovers, eco-tourists, and adventurers seeking solace in the wilderness.

Recent reports from the reserve’s development authority reveal a remarkable increase in green cover, now standing at 8.5 percent. This growth is attributed to improved air quality and a reduction in dust storms, creating an environment conducive to plant life.

With over 600,000 trees planted as part of desert forestation projects, the reserve is actively contributing to the Saudi Green Initiative’s goal of planting 600 million trees by 2030. The efforts of the reserve authority are centered on preserving wildlife, restoring environmental harmony, and nurturing vegetation cover.

The diverse ecosystem within the reserve boasts more than 180 plant species from 38 plant families, representing a significant portion of the Kingdom’s botanical wealth. Visitors can immerse themselves in cultural experiences, engaging with local Bedouin communities, sampling traditional cuisine, and learning about their way of life.

Established in 2018 by royal decree, the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Royal Nature Reserve stands as one of six royal reserves in Saudi Arabia. Home to villages and deserts inhabited by 80,000 to 100,000 residents, this oasis in the desert is a testament to the country’s commitment to conservation and sustainable development.
