Saudi Arabia’s Container Transhipment Volume Surges by 55%
In a dynamic presentation at the Global Logistics Forum in Riyadh, the president of the Saudi Ports Authority, Omar Hariri, revealed that Saudi Arabia’s container transhipment volume experienced a remarkable 55 percent surge between 2017 and 2023. Not stopping there, Hariri also highlighted a 31 percent increase in container import and export volumes during the same period.
Mawani’s Ambitious Goals for Port Capacity Expansion
Mawani’s ambitious goal is to double the capacity of its ports from 20 million containers to over 40 million. Additionally, the organization aims to increase the market share of regional transhipment from 32 percent to 45 percent and raise the port occupancy rate to 70 percent.
Saudi Arabia’s Strategic Geographical Advantage
Hariri emphasized the strategic advantage of Saudi Arabia’s geographical location, with direct access to key maritime channels facilitating nearly 30 percent of the world’s container trade volume. This prime position positions the Kingdom as a bridge between the East and West, driving regional and global commerce.

Abdulaziz Al-Duailej, President of the Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation, underscored the importance of air cargo in the global supply chain during a fireside chat.
