Saudi Arabia’s Anti-Corruption Authority Cracks Down on Corruption

In a recent press conference, a spokesperson for Saudi Arabia’s Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority, also known as Nazaha, unveiled details of several high-profile criminal cases that have been investigated and prosecuted.

The spokesperson revealed that legal actions have been taken against all individuals involved in 20 prominent corruption cases.

One case involved two employees of the Central Bank who were apprehended for accepting bribes from a resident in exchange for depositing over SR7.3 million ($1.95 million) into bank accounts of commercial entities without proper verification over a two-year period.

In another case, a security officer at the General Department of Traffic was caught accepting SR387,000 from the owner of a public services office to unlawfully alter vehicle data.

Furthermore, an employee at a university hospital was arrested for taking SR100,000 from citizens with promises of employment at the university.

Nazaha emphasized its commitment to rooting out corruption in the Kingdom, whether it be embezzlement of public funds, abuse of power for personal gain, or actions detrimental to the public interest.

The authority made it clear that those found guilty will face consequences, with no time limit on holding them accountable for their crimes.
