Shocking Truth: Saudi Ministry Denies Livestock Disease Link to Humans!

Saudi Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture Debunks Misinformation on Meat Consumption

In a bold statement, the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture in Saudi Arabia has refuted claims circulating in the media about the potential risks of consuming meat during the withdrawal period. These claims suggest a link between meat consumption and liver and kidney diseases, including cancerous tumors, but the ministry asserts that this information is inaccurate.

Veterinary Drugs and Withdrawal Periods: The Facts

The ministry clarified that the withdrawal period for veterinary drugs varies based on the active ingredient and the method of administration. Whether through injection or topical use, the withdrawal period is determined accordingly. Scientific analysis categorizes drugs into specific groups, each with its own withdrawal period criteria.

Rigorous Oversight of Slaughterhouses Across the Kingdom

With a keen eye on animal welfare and public health, the ministry and the National Center for the Prevention and Control of Plants and Animal Diseases monitor over 380 slaughterhouses across Saudi Arabia. A team of more than 1,050 veterinarians inspects over 22,000 carcasses daily to ensure they are safe for human consumption, free of disease, injuries, or any traces of injections.

Promoting Official Slaughterhouses for Safe Consumption

The ministry urges citizens and residents to opt for official slaughterhouses that adhere to strict supervision standards set by the ministry and WEQAA. This ensures that animals are not injected with any veterinary products, guaranteeing the safety and quality of the meat.

Regulatory Inspections and Standards in Veterinary Products

In collaboration with WEQAA, the ministry monitors the use of veterinary products in animal health sectors. Regulatory inspections are conducted at outlets selling veterinary products to ensure compliance with standards and proper disclosure of withdrawal periods to consumers. Regulatory authorities in the Kingdom maintain high standards in approving veterinary drugs.

Ensuring Proper Drug Storage and Prescription Practices

Field inspections of veterinary pharmacies are carried out by the ministry to ensure compliance with storage conditions, expiration dates, and accurate prescription practices. Breeders are educated on the importance of following precise medication guidelines, including withdrawal periods, dosages, and administration methods, to raise awareness and promote responsible animal care.
