Scherzinger, who is set to star in a revival of “Sunset Boulevard” on Broadway, took the stage to sing the “In Memoriam” section, paying tribute to late Broadway legends including playwright Christopher Durang and actors Alan Arkin, Glenda Jackson, Louis Gossett Jr., and Treat Williams.

The night saw the gritty adaptation of the classic young adult novel, “The Outsiders,” clinch the Tony Award for best new musical, earning producer Angelina Jolie her first Tony as well.

The play “Stereophonic,” centered around a Fleetwood Mac-like band recording an album over a tumultuous year, took home the award for best new play and led the night with a total of five awards. Penned by David Adjmi with music by former Arcade Fire member Will Butler, the play was a standout of the evening.

Special guests Jay-Z and Hillary Rodham Clinton made electrifying appearances, with Clinton presenting the musical “Suffs,” a production about suffragettes.

In a memorable musical performance, Alicia Keys graced the stage with a medley of songs from her semi-autobiographical musical, “Hell’s Kitchen,” culminating in a duet with Jay-Z on their hit “Empire State of Mind.” Newcomer Maleah Joi Moon took home the award for best leading actress for her role in “Hell’s Kitchen,” dedicating her win to her parents.

Other notable wins included Jeremy Strong for his performance in the revival of Henrik Ibsen’s political play “An Enemy of the People” and Daniel Radcliffe for his role in the revival of “Merrily We Roll Along,” marking his first Tony win in five Broadway shows.
