Swiss artist wows Riyadh with stunning homage to heritage

Riyadh’s Ahlam Gallery Showcases Swiss Painter Vlad Pocol’s Exhibition

In a captivating solo exhibition at Ahlam Gallery, Swiss painter Vlad Pocol explores the interconnectedness of the past, present, and future, all while using Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 as a focal point.

One listener asked Pocol to describe his artworks in one word, to which he replied, “Intuition,” highlighting the essence of his first show in the Kingdom.

Driven by intuition, Pocol made a bold decision to make Saudi Arabia his new home just a few months ago, leading him to create an exhibition centered around three main concepts: heritage, transition, and vision.

Titled “From Roots to Vision: A Migration,” the immersive exhibition encourages viewers to contemplate their heritage and challenge the possibilities of the future by weaving their past legacy for generations to come.

Exploring Heritage, Transition, and Vision

Within the “Heritage” collection, Pocol’s piece “Identites” delves into themes of self-reflection and outsider perceptions, while “Legacite” explores circularity, continuity, and generational cycles through a series of six artworks.

The highlight of the show, “Sans Fin,” is a mesmerizing display of moving images constructed by paint strokes, inviting viewers to question their potential for growth using the metaphor of a black hole.

In the “Transition” section, Pocol’s sculptures prompt viewers to consider what lies beneath the surface, including an installation made of discarded materials salvaged from artwork waste, challenging perceptions of sustainability and global consumption.

The “Vision” collection reflects the artist’s optimism for the future, particularly in relation to Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, with works like “Dessen” celebrating childhood memories and “Elles” paying tribute to femininity and migration experiences.

Personal Touches and Inspirations

Pocol shared that the green-colored “Ja Deu Tu Certo” holds personal significance, symbolizing healing and pride, especially in Saudi culture. The artist’s connection to the Kingdom is deeply rooted in his subconscious, offering him a sense of peace and belonging.

Reflecting on his journey to Saudi Arabia, Pocol expressed gratitude for the opportunity to showcase his works in the Kingdom, emphasizing the importance of following one’s intuition and finding a place that feels like home.

The exhibition will be open to the public until June 2, inviting visitors to immerse themselves in Pocol’s thought-provoking and visually stunning creations.
