Saudi Arabia and Somalia Celebrate UN Security Council’s Decision

In a momentous occasion, Saudi Arabia and Somalia have both expressed their delight at the UN Security Council’s recent decision to lift the arms embargo on Somalia. This move, as stated in a publication by the Saudi Press Agency on Sunday, marks a significant step towards empowering Somali security forces and enabling them to gradually take over security responsibilities post the withdrawal of African Union forces.

High-Level Meeting in Mecca

During a meeting at Al-Safa Palace in Mecca, Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, warmly welcomed President of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mohamud. The discussions revolved around enhancing bilateral relations between the two nations, exploring avenues for growth across various sectors, and exchanging perspectives on regional and international affairs.

Economic Collaboration and Trade Expansion

Both parties emphasized the importance of continuing collaborative efforts to boost trade exchange between Saudi Arabia and Somalia, diversifying trade activities, and facilitating mutual visits between officials and private sector representatives. The focus was on strengthening investment relations in sectors like agriculture, livestock, fisheries, transportation, logistics services, and ports, with a positive nod towards the outcomes of a recent Saudi-Somali round table meeting held at the sidelines of the Saudi-African summit.

Energizing Discussions on Energy Stability

Recognizing the crucial role of stable global energy markets, both countries acknowledged the significance of maintaining equilibrium in the oil market. Somalia commended Saudi Arabia for its support in ensuring stability in global oil markets, with a shared goal of benefiting both producing and consuming nations and promoting sustainable economic growth.
