Unlocking the Secrets of Art Democratization with Mana Jalalian!

Art Collector Mana Jalalian: Revolutionizing Interior Design in the UAE

In a bold move that shook up the interior design scene in the UAE, art collector Mana Jalalian introduced the renowned French manufacturer Moissonnier to the country for the first time. But Jalalian is not just a trailblazer in design – she is also a generous sharer of her extensive art collection.

With over 16 years of dedicated collecting, Jalalian has amassed a staggering 400 works of art, some of which have graced prestigious museums and biennales around the world. From La Biennale di Venezia to the Musee d’Art Moderne de Paris, her collection has made waves in the art world.

For Jalalian, sharing her collection with the public is more than just a hobby – it’s a mission. “I believe in the democratization of art, making it accessible to diverse audiences and fostering a greater appreciation for creativity and expression,” she told Arab News.

When it comes to curating her collection, Jalalian follows her instincts and personal taste. “I gravitate towards pieces that resonate with me on an emotional or intellectual level,” she explained. From themes to techniques to cultural contexts, she seeks out artworks that evoke a strong response, while also ensuring diversity in regions, styles, and mediums.

Among her prized possessions is a painting by Iranian poet Sohrab Sepehri, as well as the Moissonnier Home’s L.XV Chest-of-Drawers, Cabinet 573. Jalalian describes the latter as a perfect blend of classic elegance and contemporary flair, reflecting her design philosophy.

Established in 1885, Moissonnier is renowned for its high-end furniture. Jalalian secured exclusive distribution rights in North America, leading to the opening of the first flagship showroom in Vancouver in 2016. Now, she has expanded to the UAE with another flagship store.

“Moissonnier’s timeless elegance and impeccable craftsmanship have struck a chord with clients in the UAE,” Jalalian noted. And she hinted at further expansion into Saudi Arabia, aiming to cater to customers who appreciate the fusion of heritage and innovation in furniture design.
